I'm from China so I was expecting something similar from the same brand in China. But tuned out it's quite different. They have much wider varieties here. We tried a bunch of things here. Seems like peanut sauce is all over the place. The noodles are really good. The signature soup 瓦罐汤 was good too. The oyster pancake somehow was a little undercooked tbh. The service was good. The place was very clean though. They don't have outdoor seating though. So overall it's a different Shaxian than I expected. I may still go back just to have some true Chinese flavors.

Excellent egg vegetable noodles. Nice soup. Very good for me recently having too much meat.

Shareable portions with good food! You easily order from a QR code and the food comes out pretty fast. Favorites: * Boiled Fish Fillets With Lemon Pickled Cabbage - absolutely my favorite dish form this restaurant. Great tang and tender fish. The chewy noodles are perfect with the soup. * Fried eggplant with spicy sauce - cooked to perfect, crispy and crunchy! * Spicy Wonton W Peanut Sauce - the wrapper is so thin and the sauce is well seasoned. I could eat a plate on my own! The other dishes we got were good but the only ones I'd consider reordering is the Intestine W Spicy Sauce, not for those who don't like pork blood though. The Spicy Chewy Bean Curd Noodles were not my favorite, the picture looked very different than what came out. I'm not sure what kind of pepper was in the bean curd noodles but it was interesting. And the sesame noodles are either a hit or miss depending on how much sauce it comes with and how cooked the noodles are. But definitely add the spicy wonton sauce on top of the sesame noodles!

Cute spot with lots of tables in downtown San Mateo. You can order to go on a kiosk when you arrive or sit at a table and start ordering from a menu via QR code. They have lunch specials that are around $15 which can come with two items. My friend got a soup and steamed dumplings. I got peanut noodles and wonton soup. I didn't try her food except the soup (which was an accident) because it was a ginseng or healthy tasting soup, but it was good just like my grandma used to make! My peanut noodles were ok, nothing to really rave about. But I loved the wonton soup! Good broth and the wontons were small but there were a lot and the meat was so tasty! We also got the soup dumplings. The skin is a little thick but then they didn't break! The soup inside was really tasty and so was the meat! I didn't even need sauce bc it had a lot of flavor already. My only thing to note is there aren't really vegetables on the menu (that I could see) so we got a vegetable noodle soup dish just to eat some greens. The dish itself was just ok, but it was nice to have some broccoli and bok choy. It also came with tofu skin and an egg. Service was fast, the guys working were friendly and patient with us. It was a good amount of bringing food, taking empty plates away, etc. Would come back next time I'm in town for lunch or dinner!

Have you ever had Fujian cuisine before? Now you can at Taste of Shaxian in San Mateo! All of the dishes were very simple, but surprised us with a lot of flavor! Whether you're a fan of dumplings or not, this place has good ones and a bunch of other must-try dishes all priced very reasonably. For 2 people, we ordered just enough to be comfortably full.  * Shaxian Wonton Soup * Soup Dumplings Combo * Spicy Cold Noodles (highly recommend!) * Braised Chicken (bone in) Clay Pot w/ Rice (highly recommend!)
